However, our primary emphasis is on the following Victorian Curriculum areas and capabilties, as these target Blackwood Special Schools Outdoor Education Centre’s:

  • Alphabet Dig

    (or Archaeological Dig) (Day or Night) Enjoy the challenge of digging and discovering what is hidden in the sand.

  • Archery

    fire arrows out onto the range hitting their targets

    Using a bow and arrow, do your best to hit the bullseye... or just our target. 

  • Bike Riding

    Regardless of abilities, this is a lesson for everyone!
    This lesson is not available for Day Visits

  • Bouldering

    (Day or Night) A safe and enjoyable way to introduce climbing in an indoor environment with no harness or helmet.

  • Bush Cooking

    Bush Cooking is a wonderful way for students to enjoy the bush while catering for the group.

  • Bush Huts

    Lost in the bush? Cannot find shelter? What will you do? Learn some basic skills to help you survive.

  • Bushwalking

    Explore and enjoy the natural wonders of the Wombat State Forest & surrounding Parks on foot.

  • Campfire

    (Day or Night) Providing warmth & inspiring conversation, anytime is a great time to sit around a campfire.

  • Climbing Tower

    Discover new heights as you climb high into the sky.

  • Environmental Games

    Learn about the Wombat State Forest & nearby parks as you discover unique flora & fauna.

  • Fossil Dig

    Follow the footprints and step back in time to discover one of Australia's largest Megafauna.

  • Frisbee Golf

    A fun lesson involving skill, accuracy, technique, concentration & co-ordination.

  • Gold Panning

    Dive deep into the history of Blackwood by trying to strike it rich..... maybe!

  • High Ropes

    A unique opportunity to further challenge students.

  • Imagination Trail

    A great way to develop, improve, enhance and complement student communication skills.

  • Low Ropes

    Low Ropes is a wonderful introduction to challenge, teamwork, resilience and perserverance.

  • Night Archery

    See if you can hit the bullseye while doing glow in the dark archery.

  • Night Walks

    Discover the sounds, sights, shapes, shadows and mystery of the Wombat State Forest at night.

  • Observatory

    On a clear night in terms 2 & 3 students can explore & discover our solar system & beyond.

  • Orienteering

    (Day or Night) Orienteering is a great way to fine tune your survival skills while exploring the forest.

  • Team Games

    Further develop your teamwork, communication & leadership skills through engaging initiatives.

  • Yabbying

    Enjoying the scenery around our Yabby Dam makes this a relaxing lesson for all.
